Rock Hill, York County's largest city, boasts a population of over 50,000 residents. Winthrop University has been a Rock Hill landmark since 1886. This 100-acre tree-lined main campus is complemented by a nearby 450 acre sports and recreation facility. The school has an enrollment of more than 5,000 students. Twenty percent of these students are pursuing postgraduate degrees. Cognetics Real Estate, Inc. predicts that in terms of employment growth, the overall performance of the Rock Hill area will be above average relative to other submarkets in the Charlotte metropolitan area during the next five years. Lancaster County is becoming increasingly popular for new residents of the Charlotte area. Just over the border, south of the Ballantyne area, this area is an easy commute via Highway 521 to all of Charlotte's shopping, dining and entertainment.
